How the Affordability Index works

The eHealthInsurance Affordability Index shows the average cost of individual and family health insurance on a national basis.

The index is based on the weighted average cost of over 50,000 applications for individual and family health insurance received by eHealthInsurance Services, Inc. from January through June 2004. The index uses submitted health insurance applications as its cost basis in order to reflect the most up-to-date health plan pricing.
