Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona's (BCBSAZ) mission is to provide the best value in health insurance and to improve the quality of life for Arizonans. BCBSAZ was formed 69 years ago and has been part of the fabric of the community ever since. The company saw a 5 percent increase in customers in 2007, and customer satisfaction continued to remain high, with 9 out of 10 of its members surveyed reporting that they are satisfied with BCBSAZ. In recent public recognition, BCBSAZ scored high marks as well: Phoenix Business Journal ranked BCBSAZ as one of the Best Places to Work in the Valley in 2005 and 2006, and in 2008 Arizona Business magazine ranked BCBSAZ as the Number 1 PPO in Arizona, marking the seventh year it has received that honor.
In 2007, BCBSAZ also processed $2.71 billion in medical claims on behalf of its 1.1 million customers.

> BCBSAZ also is working with University Medical Center to improve access to trauma and critical care services to residents in southern Arizona through one of the most advanced telemedicine programs in the world. The program helps individuals in need to receive medical help from trauma specialists at Arizona's most advanced trauma center in a matter of minutes instead of hours.
> As a locally based company, community support is a core value of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona. Each year, BCBSAZ gives back to hundreds of worthwhile charities and organizations that aid in the health and wellness of residents, provide enriching cultural experiences, educate and support youth, and drive the economic and civic development of communities. For example, BCBSAZ employees donate their talents and resources to more than 200 organization boards and committees across the state. In 2007 alone, BCBSAZ and its employees donated more than $1 million to United Way.
