BCBS Delaware Overview
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware (BCBSD) provides benefits solutions that enable our customers to access high quality, cost effective health services, and the knowledge and guidance necessary to improve their health and well-being. With 75 years of service, BCBSD offers a comprehensive portfolio of health benefits products to nearly 398,000 customers. BCBSD's customers are predominantly Delaware-based employers who provide coverage for their employees and retirees who live both in Delaware, and throughout the country. The company acts both as an insurer and as an administrator for self-insured plans. BCBSD also offers coverage options for individuals, families and members ages 65+. Examples of available plans include Point-of-Service (POS), Independent Practice Association (IPA), Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO) and Traditional plans, as well as consumer-directed health plans and Medicare Supplement plans. > BCBSD achieved a three-year "Excellent" accreditation for its Managed Care Organization products from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)* in June 2009, with a total accreditation score of 94.56 out of 100 points. BCBSD's Managed Care Organization products include its Independent Practice Association (IPA) and Point-of-Service (POS) plans.
> The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) recently awarded BCBSD a 2009 "Best of Blue" Plan Excellence Award for BCBSD's performance in the administration of the Federal Employee Program.
BCBS Delaware Subsidiaries
On August 20, 2010, BCBSD announced that it has signed an affiliation agreement with Pennslyvania-based Highmark Inc. A regulatory review process is required before the proposed affiliation becomes effective.
