Care First Medicare Plans
CareFirst is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. For over 70 years, this not-for-profit health care company, through its affiliates and subsidiaries, has offered an expansive collection of health insurance products and administrative services to more than 3 million individuals and groups throughout Maryland, the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia.
In the Present
CareFirst is the largest health care insurer in the Mid-Atlantic region, serving over 3 million members while employing approximately 5,000 associates and contractors across Maryland, Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina. CareFirst's commitment to their customers has earned them nationwide ‘Best in Blue' recognition for stellar customer service for 15 consecutive years for Washington D.C. federal employee program (FEP) members, and nine consecutive years for Maryland FEP members.
CareFirst Medicare Supplement policies are offered to fill in the coverage gaps left by Original Medicare (Part A and Part B). The law standardizes each Medigap plan, meaning that the policy details do not vary across insurance carriers. However, not every carrier will offer each plan. CareFirst offers Plans A, B, F (and high deductible Plan F), G, L, M, and N in Virginia. In D.C., Plans A, B, F (and the high deductible version), and N are available. Maryland beneficiaries may choose form Plans A, B, F (and high deductible Plan F), G, L, M, and N.
Prescription Drug Plans
CareFirst Medicare offers various Prescription Drug Plans (PDPs) to eligible beneficiaries who live within a plan's network. The Medi-CareFirst Blue Rx Prescription Drug (Part D) plan received 4.5 starts out of a possible 5 star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), making it one of the highest ranked plans in the mid-Atlantic region.
CareFirst offers two Part D plans, BlueRx Standard (PDP) and BlueRx Enhanced (PDP). Both have been approved by Medicare, and offer copayments/coinsurance for your prescription drugs, including a 90-day supply of Generic medications for only 2.5 times the monthly copay amount. When members are in the Coverage Gap, CareFirst's BlueRx plan also provides coverage without an annual deductible.
