Scott N. FlandersChief Executive Officer and Board Member
Scott Flanders has served as Chief Executive Officer of eHealth, Inc. since May 2016 and as a director since February 2008. Prior to joining eHealth as CEO, Mr. Flanders served as the chief executive officer of Playboy Enterprises, Inc., a media and lifestyle company from 2009 until May 2016, and continues to serve as a member of its board of directors. Previously, Mr. Flanders served as the president and chief executive officer of Freedom Communications, Inc., a privately-owned media company, from January 2006 to June 2009, and as a member of its board of directors from 2001 to 2009. From 1999 to July 2005, Mr. Flanders served as the chairman and chief executive officer of Columbia House Company, a direct marketer of music and video products, which was acquired by Bertelsmann AG in July 2005. Mr. Flanders holds a B.A. degree in economics from the University of Colorado and a J.D. from Indiana University. He is also a certified public accountant.
Dave FrancisChief Operating Officer
Dave Francis has served as Chief Financial Officer since July 2016 and was named Chief Operations Officer in October 2016, directing all financial and key operational aspects of the company's business, including telesales, product and technology development. Prior to joining eHealth, Mr. Francis served as a Managing Director, Equity Research division at RBC Capital Markets from November 2013 to July 2016. From 2007 to October 2013, he served as Managing Partner of The JAAG Group/JAAG Research, a healthcare and technology consulting and research firm founded by Mr. Francis. Previously, Mr. Francis was managing director and co-head of Healthcare Equity Research at Jefferies & Co., and has over 25 years of capital markets experience in the health care and technology industries. Mr. Francis holds a B.S. degree in economics with concentrations in finance and management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Robert S. HurleyPresident, Carrier and Business Development
Robert Hurley has served as President, Medicare Products since October 2016 in a role designed to grow our current and emerging Medicare businesses. He has responsibility across all Medicare products for business planning, product management, marketing, business development and sales. Previously, Mr. Hurley was Executive Vice President, Sales and Operations from November 2015 to October 2016. In this role, Mr. Hurley was responsible for Sales and Operations for the company's individual and family plan business, Medicare and Small Business and related business opportunities. Mr. Hurley also oversaw the company's relationships with health insurance carrier partners and the company's customer care center operations. Prior to becoming Executive Vice President, Sales and Operations, Mr. Hurley served as our Senior Vice President of Sales and Operations from March 2011 to November 2015, our Senior Vice President of Carrier Relations from May 2007 to March 2011 and our Vice President of Strategic Initiatives from September 2003 to May 2007, where-in he was responsible for our public and government relations activities. From April 1999 to September 2003, Mr. Hurley served as Vice President of Customer Care and managed the operations of the company's customer care center. Prior to joining eHealth, Mr. Hurley served as Associate Vice President of Sales and Operations for the consumer business segment at Health Net, Inc., a managed health care company. Mr. Hurley holds a B.A. degree in law and society from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Ian KalinChief Technology Officer
Ian Kalin serves as eHealth's Chief Data Officer. He joined the company in March of 2017 as Chief Data Officer and starting serving as Chief Technology Officer in March 2018. Mr Kalin is responsible for engineering, product management, user experience, project delivery, technology operations, and data science. Before coming to eHealth, Mr Kalin was the U.S. Department of Commerce's first Chief Data Officer. His data experience also includes roles as a Presidential Innovation Fellow for the Department of Energy, the Director of Open Data for Socrata, and as a Special Data Consultant for Google. He was also a Managing Director for Power Advocate and started his career in the U.S. Navy where he served as a Nuclear Engineer and as a Counter Terrorism Officer. Mr. Kalin holds degrees from Georgetown University and Old Dominion University and was also awarded the Robert Seamans Fellowship from Harvard Kennedy School for leadership in technology and public policy. Mr. Kalin lives in San Francisco where he is a volunteer for civic and educational organizations.
Tim HannanChief Marketing Officer
Tim Hannan joined eHealth as Chief Marketing Officer in June 2017. Mr. Hannan oversees all marketing and communications efforts across multiple business lines, including individual and family health insurance products, small business health insurance products, and Medicare insurance products. Prior to joining eHealth, Mr. Hannan served as CMO of Ibotta, Inc., one of the nation’s most popular mobile shopping apps. At Ibotta, Mr. Hannan built a dynamic marketing organization that drove significant growth in revenues and customer usage through channel expansion and optimization, a deep understanding of data and analytics, and a rigorous approach to testing. Prior to joining Ibotta, Mr. Hannan held key leadership roles in the online travel industry as CMO of Trip.com, as Vice President of eMarketing for Orbitz Worldwide, and as Director of Accounts for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Expedia. Mr. Hannan holds a B.A. in Quantitative Economics and Finance from Providence College and an MBA from London Business School.
Claudia GirrbachChief Information Security Officer
Claudia Girrbach has served as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of eHealth, Inc., where she established the CISO role, since December 2015. Prior to joining eHealth as CISO, Ms. Girrbach served as the Chief Information Security Officer of John Muir Health Systems, a regional hospital system in Northern California. She also served in various senior IT and security roles in the retail sector, including positions with Gap Inc., Rite Aid Pharmacy, and American Stores. Ms. Girrbach was awarded an M.A. in Business Administration from Stanford University where she was a Sloan Fellow. She also holds a B.A. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
John DesserSenior Vice President, Public Policy and Government Affairs
John Desser is the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Policy at eHealth, where he manages day-to-day operations of eHealth's health care policy work in Washington D.C. Mr. Desser has over two decades of experience working in government affairs and public policy. Prior to eHealth, he was the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health Policy in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). While at HHS, Mr. Desser led the George W. Bush Administration's "Affordable Choices" initiative to extend basic, affordable health insurance to the uninsured. Desser also managed the health care practice at Jefferson Government Relations, LLC, and played a key role in the creation of Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). Mr. Desser also worked as a health policy advisor and aide for former U.S. Representative Jon Kyl (R-AZ) and Senator John McCain (R-AZ). He is a founder and board member of the Council for Affordable Health Coverage, a founding board member of the Association for Web Based Health Insurance Brokers, and serves on the board of the Alliance for Safe Biologic Medicine.
Rena LaneSenior Vice President, Human Resources
Rena Lane brings to eHealth more than 20 years of experience providing progressive human resources leadership to companies during all stages of development and global organizational growth. She joined the company in 2013 and leads eHealth's Human Resources and Facilities teams across all functions and sites. Previously, she was Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Palm as they grew to become a $1.5 billion consumer products company. Before that, Ms. Lane was the first Vice President of Human Resources at WebEx, and earlier was the VP for HR & Administration at MIPS at the time of its IPO. During an eleven year period prior to that, she held roles leading talent acquisition and development, global total rewards, and international human resources at SGI as they grew from start-up to multi-billions in revenue. She started her career with ExxonMobil's high-technology mergers and acquisitions team in New York. Ms. Lane holds a Master's degree in Industrial & Labor Relations from Cornell University and a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the State University of New York at Geneseo.
Seth TeichSVP & GM, General Manager, Small and Medium Business Insurance Group
Seth Teich joined eHealth as Senior Vice President of Business and Corporate Development in May 2017. Mr. Teich came to the company from Castlight Health, where he served as Vice President of Financial and Corporate Planning. He also served in various Senior Analyst roles in the health care sector for several firms, including Balyasny Asset Management L.P.; Spring Point Capital, LLC; Apex Capital, LLC; Wachovia Securities; and Bank of America Securities. Mr. Teich graduated from Cornell University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and is a chartered financial analyst. Mr. Teich is also on the Board of Trustees for the California State Parks Foundation.
Dave NicklausSenior Vice President of Sales & Operations
Dave Nicklaus joined eHealth in June 2017 as Senior Vice President of Sales and Operations. In this role he oversees sales operations for individual and family plans, Medicare insurance plans, and health insurance plans for small and medium-sized businesses. Mr. Nicklaus is an expert in sales performance, and has more than a decade of experience in optimizing sales systems, technology and processes to drive volume and efficiency. Prior to eHealth, Mr. Nicklaus led operations for Medicare telesales efforts at United Healthcare for 11 years. In this role, Mr. Nicklaus oversaw the operations for 4,500 sales agents and grew the Medicare sales organization into one of the highest performing in the nation. Mr. Nicklaus has a strong background in technology, and was previously an IT manager at Schneider National and American Medical Security. He holds a degree in business administration from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.
Jeff BernsteinSenior Vice President, Provider Relations
Jeff Bernstein joined eHealth, Inc. in July of 2013. As Senior Vice President, Provider Relations, he is responsible for the end-to-end strategy, sales, implementation and execution of eHealth’s provider channel. Prior to this role, Mr. Bernstein led the company's marketing efforts, including oversight of branding, customer acquisition, digital marketing, business analytics, content and public relations and communications. Mr. Bernstein came to eHealth from Universal McCann, where he led the San Francisco office and oversaw accounts for leading brand-name clients. Prior to Universal McCann, Mr. Bernstein was the co-founder and chief marketing officer of the PBJS Advertising Agency, where he headed marketing, sales and PBJS's online advertising business. PBJS was sold to the Publicis Groupe in 2008. Earlier in his career, Mr. Bernstein worked for the Microsoft Corporation where he served as director of MSN ad product planning and industry development. Mr. Bernstein started his career at BBDO NY where he co-founded the BBDO Interactive Group (later to become Atmosphere). Mr. Bernstein holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Miami University.
Scott GieslerSenior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary
Scott Giesler is Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of eHealth, Inc. and manages the company’s legal and compliance functions. Mr. Giesler joined eHealth in September 2006. Prior to that, Mr. Giesler was a corporate securities attorney with Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati for seven years. His practice focused on mergers, acquisitions and other corporate reorganizations, initial public offerings, public and private company financing transactions and public company governance and reporting. Before that, Mr. Giesler was a litigation attorney with Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton where his practice focused on complex white collar criminal and civil litigation matters. Mr. Giesler also previously served as law clerk to The Honorable Robert J. Kelleher, United States District Court, Central District of California. Mr. Giesler holds a B.A. in environmental science from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a J.D. degree from Loyola of Los Angeles Law School.
Kate SidorovichVice President of Investor Relations
Kate Sidorovich has served as eHealth’s Vice President of Investor Relations since 2008. Prior to joining eHealth, Ms. Sidorovich was a Vice President of Market Street Partners (MSP), a management consulting company specializing in investor relations and corporate communications. Prior to MSP, Ms. Sidorovich worked as a technology investment banker at Banc of America Securities. She holds a B.A. degree in economics from the University of Rochester and an M.B.A. in finance from the University of Texas at Austin. Ms. Sidorovich is a CFA charterholder.
