Your employer is required to explain your right to continue benefits to you when you first join the employer sponsored group health insurance plan, and again when a Qualifying Event occurs. When you qualify for COBRA, your employer has thirty days to notify the insurance company of your eligibility, and the insurance company then has fourteen days to provide you with information regarding the costs and benefits of the health care continuation coverage.
