How Can I Find Out if my Prescription Drugs are Covered by my Aetna Medicare Advantage Plan?
Say you’re enrolled, or you’re thinking of enrolling, in an Aetna Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plan. How do you know if it’s going to cover your medications? We’ll tell you some easy ways to find out.
Aetna’s Medicare plan options
First of all, it’s important to note that not every Medicare health plan – whether from Aetna or a different Medicare-approved insurance company – necessarily covers prescription drugs.
Most Aetna Medicare Advantage plans include prescription drug coverage. They’re called Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plans. But be aware that not every Medicare Advantage plan offers this benefit.
Fortunately, it’s not hard to find out if an Aetna Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plan will help pay for your medications.
Will my Aetna Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plan cover my particular medications?
Each Aetna Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plan has its own formulary. That’s a list of prescription drugs the plan covers, and it’s organized into “tiers,” which help determine price information. So check your plan’s formulary to see if it covers the prescription drugs that you take. Or, you can use eHealth’s plan finder tool and enter your prescriptions as described below.
Even if an Aetna Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plan has your medications in its formulary, you may need to pay a deductible before the plan’s cost-sharing kicks in. You typically pay a coinsurance or copayment amount as well.
If my Aetna Medicare Prescription Drug plan covers my medications, am I all set?
It can be a great feeling to know that your Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plan covers your medications. But here’s something you should know.
Aetna Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plans (like any such plan) can change their formularies.
- Every fall, the plan sends you its Annual Notice of Change. You’d be wise to look it over and take note of any added or dropped medications, and any other coverage changes that might affect you.
- Occasionally, a Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plan might change its formulary, any time of year. But the plan will let you know when necessary.
Did you know you can enter your prescription drugs in eHealth’s plan finder tool, to see if your Aetna Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plan may help pay for your medications? It’s easy–just enter your ZIP code in the box on this page to get started. When you look at the plan details, you can click “Add Your Rx Drugs.”
