A dental insurance health plan covers all or part of the cost of dental examinations, procedures, and appliances. Dental insurance works in much the same way as medical insurance. For a specific monthly premium, you are entitled to certain dental benefits, usually including regular checkups, cleanings, x-rays, and certain services required to promote general dental health. Some dental plans provide broader coverage than others, and some carry greater out-of-pocket expenses in line with the increased benefits they offer. Some dental plans may also provide coverage for certain types of oral surgery, dental implants, or orthodontia.
