A health insurance premium is the total amount paid to your insurance company for health insurance coverage. This is typically a monthly charge. Within the context of group health insurance coverage, health insurance premiums are paid in whole or in part by the employer on behalf of the employee or on behalf of the employee’s dependents.
Health insurance premiums under Obamacare
Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA or “Obamacare”), health insurance premiums (also referred to as Obamacare premiums) cost an average of $271 per month for individual coverage and $667 per month for family coverage.
